Moving? What happens to your pet’s license
Municipal licence rules vary — here is the clean way to move.
A pet license belongs to one pet, one owner and one municipality. Municipal licence rules vary: in many programs, moving to a new municipality requires a new licence or an update to your registration — so a move changes things.
Moving within the same municipality
Update your address in your account on the owner portal. That's it: your license stays valid, and notices keep reaching you at the right place.
Moving to a new municipality
If you've moved to a different municipality, first update your address in your account. Then select <strong>Renew or Create in Another Municipality</strong> from your pet's license options to transfer your pet to the new municipality. Once you complete that step, a new invoice is generated based on the new municipality's licensing by-law. Since each municipality sets its own fees, discounts, and requirements, the amount may differ from your previous license.

The tag itself
Your pet's tag travels with the pet. If it is lost in the move, replacement tags are available at municipal offices. Replacement fees are set by each municipality.
