The pet license renewal checklist

Five minutes, once a year — everything to check before you pay.

Renewal is the one moment each year when your pet's municipal file gets your attention. Use it well — the same five minutes also make a lost-pet recovery faster.

Before you pay

  • Expiry date — your notice arrives ahead of expiry, according to your municipality’s schedule; renewing on time avoids a lapse
  • Address and phone — this is what reunites you with a lost pet; make sure both are current
  • Proof documents — rabies vaccination, spay/neuter, microchip certificate: uploaded once, discounts apply automatically where your by-law provides them

While renewing

  • Check the fee — it follows your municipality's by-law; discounts show before payment
  • Keep the receipt — it arrives by email as soon as payment is tracked

After renewing

  • Check the tag — legible and attached? Replacements are available at municipal offices for a small fee
  • Lost-pet alerts — opt in to be notified when a dog is reported lost in your area

Where to renew

Online through the owner portal at emili.pet, at your municipal counter, or through participating partners. If you're not sure who manages licensing in your community, Find Your Municipality gives you the verified answer.
